The 100 Day Project, Day 50

Halfway.

I am officially fifty days into this project — and about twenty days behind the participants who have managed to post every single day. I knew when I started that my life doesn't always allow for that kind of consistency. I decided to participate anyway, giving myself grace to show up however and whenever I am able. I have no regrets about that decision.

What I did not anticipate was this — the depth of connection that has come from sharing these images publicly. For years I have been navigating life with my photographs largely tucked away, out of public view. This project has changed that. Slowly, day by day, image by image, I have been finding my way back to my practice on a level that feels new and more meaningful than anything I have experienced before. And the people who have shown up to witness that journey have moved me more than I can adequately express. Thank you.

Today's image was made on Vinalhaven Island in Maine. I wanted to capture the multitude of blues I experience there — the soft blues of early morning and dusk, the bright blues of cloudless days, and the blues that creep from high in the sky toward the horizon after the sun has set.

I printed this photograph on a heavy bond matte art paper that gives it an almost pastel quality — as if it were drawn rather than photographed. It feels right for an image this quiet.

Fifty more days. I'll be here.

About the 100 Day Project: A global creative challenge where thousands of artists share a piece of their practice every single day for 100 days. I'm joining creatives around the world, and I'm excited to bring you along. Each day I'll be sharing one of my photos — some recent, some old, and some from my current project — along with the story behind it: where I was, who I was with, and why I love it.
