The 100 Day Project, Day 32

We never quite know where the journey will take us. We change lanes. Merge into others. We exit life paths we thought we'd travel forever and find ourselves on roads we never planned to take.

I could not have predicted most of the directions my life has gone. And I am very grateful for that. The things I once wanted most, the future I once envisioned — they didn't happen. What arrived instead was richer, more surprising, and more meaningful than anything I had originally imagined for myself.

I made this photograph waiting for a delayed flight home from Rochester to Tucson during an early January snowstorm. Viewed through a terminal window, a long shutter speed dissolved the familiar into something else entirely — pale blue abstraction, the runway markings softened into whispers of potential paths to be traveled.

I now live just over a mile from where this photograph was made. I love hearing and seeing the planes coming and going. I can tell the time of day by the planes landing or taking off. It helps me feel connected to the rest of the world — a reminder that I can pop on a flight whenever I wish.

About the 100 Day Project: A global creative challenge where thousands of artists share a piece of their practice every single day for 100 days. I'm joining creatives around the world, and I'm excited to bring you along. Each day I'll be sharing one of my photos — some recent, some old, and some from my current project — along with the story behind it: where I was, who I was with, and why I love it.
